A commissioned work by École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (Projet Fly 2018).
Caveat is derived from Latin, meaning, “let him beware”, and the verb cavēre meaning, "to be on guard". It is a warning, a caution, to be heeded.
Back and forth we rock, past to present, present to future. Back towards the forgotten, the forsaken; forward towards the unknown, the still lost. Warnings that can be felt but not heard, muffled by future messengers.
In this moment, we are in a precarious place. We are trying to hold on: onto new practices, new thinkings; onto lost practices, old traditions. All to secure a better future. Hopeful, fearful, and uncertain. We hold each other tightly. We experience moments of rushing momentum and far too many moments of silence. Look around you. The world, the planet, the people in your life... We’re as good as gone. Hold each other tightly - you’re gonna miss it when it’s gone.
